Welcome to

The Venturers Society!

We are a unique Community Access and Employment Preparation program for adults with developmental disabilities operating in both Calgary and Medicine Hat.

Our Mission Statement:

The Venturers Society is committed to the physical, emotional and intellectual development of our participants. This is achieved through participation in and contribution to the communities we serve and daily contact with our many natural areas.

We owe a large part of our continued success to our community partners.

Our ability to access dependable host sites lets participants experience meaningful, ongoing work opportunities in our community all year round.

About Us

Venturers began in 1986 as a forestry related training project with 6 full time participants with disabilities.

Today we have 40 participants based at host sites in Fish Creek Provincial Park, Elbow Valley Station/Kananaskis Country, Burby Firehall in Bragg Creek and Medicine Hat/Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.

Since 1986, we have contributed to several Alberta Provincial Parks as well as local area residential camps including Easter Seals Camp Horizon & Kamp Kiwanis. Community partner organizations supporting our work include Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society, Cypress Hills Park Watch Association, Bragg Creek Snowbirds Seniors Fellowship, and Calgary Horticultural Society.

Support Us

We are a registered nonprofit society with charitable status. Eight full time and four part time staff make up our team that is supported by a volunteer Board of Directors.  Over the years, a number of volunteers have joined us to share their energy and expertise to support our participants and staff.

Get Involved

New participants are welcome but we may have a waitlist. Successful Venturers are people who enjoy working outdoors, being part of a team and learning new skills daily. Interested individuals are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria and apply or call us with your questions. We are here to help!

We are a Community Access/Employment Support program partially funded by Alberta Human Services
